The volume reconstructs and compares the contributions of Lessing, Tomashevsky, Jean Pouillon, Paul Ricoeur, Gérard Genette, Carmen Bobes Naves, Franz K. Stanzel, Dorrit Cohn and Jaap Lintvelt. Categories are not offered as a mere taxonomy: each concept is placed within the intellectual problem that made it necessary and compared with later revisions.
